The
holiday is celebrated on the 17th of March
because Saint Patrick died on that day.
Saint
Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. St
Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland.
In
Catholic Ireland itself, this day is celebrated more quietly and in
the family circle. Only the Irish emigrants have made the St. Patrick's Day to a
mass event.
Green
is the colour of the Irish and Green should be everything
on that day.
In
the early days only her national flags, which they kept swinging
joyfully in the sky, were green but over the years more and more
"objects" were dyed green. Scarves, sweaters, trousers,
shirts, T-shirts, hats, even food, their beer and the faces have been
awarded green colour, according to the motto: everything you can
colour, will be coloured.
